The members of the Dundalk Avenue quartet have a combined barbershop harmony singing experience of over 150 years!

Individually, they have previously sung in more than a dozen quartets prior to forming this combination.

All the members of the quartet proudly sing in "The Chorus of the Chesapeake", which is from the Dundalk MD chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society.

A "Barber Shop" quartet consists of four people. While this may seem sort of obvious, some people, when told that we are a Barber Shop quartet, ask... "Oh?  How many people are in your quartet?"

Each person in the quartet sings a separate musical passage that produces, because of the unique harmony voicing, the sound that is known as "Barber Shop harmony". The four voice parts of a Barber Shop quartet are known as Tenor, Lead, Baritone and Bass. The "Lead" singer is the person who sings the melody of the song. The "Tenor" singer sings a harmony part that is voiced higher than the melody, and the "Bass" singer sings a harmony part that is lower than the melody. This leaves the "Bari" singer with "all the left over notes" to sing whose presence makes the unique Barber Shop harmony sound.

The "Dundalk Avenue" quartet really likes singing Barber Shop harmony for the public!  Whether it's delivering a "Singing Telegram" for a birthday or anniversary, or doing a twenty or thirty minute performance, we enjoy what we do, and we would like to perform for you - in the "Dundalk Avenue" style!

Who we are...

John Myers

John is our Tenor singer. He sings really high notes and we think that he has the ability to attract the attention of dogs. John has a job as a Simulations Engineer. We do not know what that means - it's a secret and he can't tell us. John's wife's name is Dotty. She is a lot prettier than John. Dotty also sings Barber Shop harmony in the "Pride of Baltimore" chorus. She also sings prettier than John.

Henry "Bud" Laumann

"Bud" sings the melody part, or in Barber Shop terms, the "Lead" part. The part name is pronounced "LEED" and not "LED" although sometimes we tell Bud to get the lead out. Bud is the youngest guy in the quartet, but he is still old enough to be a retired Social Security Administration Systems Analyst. I think he was thirty-one when he retired with twenty-five years service. Bud is married to a lovely lady named Cheri who also sings Barber Shop harmony and her brother Ron sings Barber Shop harmony and Ron's daughters Jen and Nancy sing Barber Shop harmony and Bud and Cheri's daughter Mandy sings Barber Shop harmony and Mandy's husband T.J. sings Barber Shop harmony and... and...  Did I mention that Bud and his family like to sing Barber Shop harmony?

Tim Long

Tim sings the Baritone part. A Barber Shop baritone (or "bari") sings the note in a chord that no one else in the quartet normally wants to sing. Sometimes, Barber Shop harmony people refer to the bari part as the garbage part, but when you hear Tim sing bari, you'll know that you are listening to a real garbage man. Tim had a job where he used to have to take clients out to play golf. He also sold Hospital Imaging Equipment. Tim retired from the sales job because it interfered with his golf game. Tim is married to a wonderful woman named Larraine. Other women admire her because of Tim.

Cliff Meekins

Cliff is the Bass singer which is the most important part in the quartet. Cliff also wrote this. Cliff thinks he is a fish because he is called a bass. Cliff is retired from the Social Security Administration, where he was a Computer Business Applications Software Designer. Cliff is married to a beautiful redhead named Jeanie who also sings Barber Shop harmony - and pretty good, too! Jeanie watched over Cliff's shoulder as he wrote this.

As you can see from the foregoing mini-bios, the Dundalk Avenue quartet takes itself very seriously... NOT!
